Coach of the Year Disability Pathway 2024: Richard Lavender
We’re delighted to announce that an external judging panel has named Richard Lavender as the County FA winner of the 2024 Coach of The Year Disability Pathway as part of England Football’s Grassroots Football Awards.
Richard is a coach at Sheffield City Knights FC and has created a fun, safe and inclusive environment for all, both on-and off-pitch.
He has supported many disabled players to overcome barriers they might face when accessing football, providing additional support to make the game accessible.
Nominator Leanne wanted to recognise Richard’s dedication by nominating him for a grassroots football award.
She said: “Richard has helped the players both on and off the pitch to build their confidence, always making time for every single player.
“He dedicates so much of his time and energy as a volunteer despite having a busy family life. He recently got all the team a new training kit and a sponsor to support the club. He also helps the players organise kickabouts outside of training.
“He does this because he knows how much football means to the players and how it supports their fitness and mental health.
“I honestly don’t know how he does and this is why he deserves to be recognised.”
The Coach of the Year Disability Pathway award aims to recognise a coach who is helping disabled players enjoy the game and reach their full potential. Creating a thriving learning environment for all. Helping players succeed in their respective game format. Being aware of their own motivations and behaviours.
