Match Report: Huddersfield Town Women 3 -2 Doncaster Rovers Belles
The Terriers win third consecutive Women’s Senior Cup Final
Yasmin Mason scored a hattrick to win the Sheffield and Hallamshire Women’s Senior Cup Final for the West Yorkshire side.
Despite Doncaster Rovers Belles’ equalisers from Hannah McWilliams and Phoebe Sneddon, they couldn’t quite keep Huddersfield Town Women quiet. The Terriers showed that despite their relegation, they won’t be an easy match in their new league.
In the first half a solid defensive performance kept the Belles’ attack at bay. Beth Ibbotson and Ria Montgomery spent the half batting away every ball in behind, leaving Arianne Parnham and Jasmine Saxton struggling to face space in behind.
After some mounting pressure from Rebecca Beresford firing up the wing and crossing into the Belles box from space, Yasmin Mason was able to find space at the edge of the area and fired across the keeper into the top left.
The Belles came out in the second half looking much more of a threat, working the ball up the left until a rebound fell at the feet of Hannah McWilliams and she fired home.
Huddersfield attacked down the right wing and an end to end second half came to its close when Beresford crossed for Mason to head home.
Doncaster quickly fired back. Megumi Shenton came off the bench and assisted fellow substitute Phoebe Sneddon.
It wasn’t quite enough however, and Mason rounded off her hattrick and sealed the win in added time, winning the ball high up the pitch, and rifling it into the net.
The win leaves Huddersfield Town Women with a big positive to take into the new season after a tough year in the league, and a fifth county cup win in six finals.
The two teams will face each other in the FA Women’s National League Division One North next season, when Doncaster Rovers Belles will be hoping to get their revenge.
